The main camp, which acts as a fully functional guided American plan camp for both hunting and fishing, is situated on the shores of Lake Dufreboy, 85 miles west of the village of Kuujjuaq. This is a large lake teeming with Lake Trout and Landlocked Arctic Char. It is on the the traditional migration path of the Leaf River Caribou Herd and just a short distance from their summer massing area to the west of the camp. While flying in you will notice the trails that have been carved into the rockscape over many years from caribou coming through this particular area.

The main camp consists of the permanent building that acts as the kitchen and dining area. It also has a shower facility. The sleep cabins are wood frame 14 x 16 structures. Each are able to accomodate 4 hunters comfortably. The guides and camp staff have their own cabins seperate from the guests.

Each cabin has oil heat as well as lights. The beds all have 4"high density foam mattresses as well as pillows.

Hunting Area

The area that is being hunted is known as the UNGAVA BAY REGION of Northern Quebec's Eastern Arctic. It is in Inuit controlled lands, governed under the James Bay Agreement. The area consists of 300,000 square miles of the most pristine landscapes, dotted with as many lakes as land. It is above the tree line, which offers clear and open shooting. However, the gentle rolling hillside provides enough relief for stalking. You can expect to see flocks of Canadian & Snow geese before they make their long journey south. We have Arctic Wolves, Arctic Fox as well as Snowy Owls. You might see Peregrine Falcons as well as Hawks. The lakes all provide excellent fishing.

The Leaf River Herd
is approximately 260,000 strong. It is a very healthy herd and over the past ten years has been the most reliable herd in both migration time and pattern as well as trophy quality.

In hunting a migratory herd we will spend most of the days on the hill tops "glassing" the open tundra in search of groups of large bachelor bulls as well as the solitary bull in search of a harem of his own. This hunt can be as physically demanding as you want to make it. In general it is a spot and stalk hunt. We will make use of the boats to get into back bays where we will start to hunt from. At the end of the day, we will utilize the boats to transfer meat and trophies back to camp. Many times we will spot bulls right from the boat coming or going to certain hunting areas.

All equipment at both camps are in excellent condition. We make use of Yamaha 9.9 HP outboards, Yamaha 3800 watt generators, 16' and 14' aluminum boats, propane cook stoves with ovens, oil burning space heaters, electric as well as Coleman lamps for lighting, propane water heater with 1/2 HP electric water pump and pressurized water system. The kitchens are fully equipped with all necessities required to prepare the most nourishing meals.

The guides are all experienced in the fields and have vast knowledge about the area as well as caribou and fish habits. The kitchen staff will prepare camp style meals which will be nourishing and filling. We use fresh produce and have frozen meat supplies in addition to the use of caribou and fish if desired by the guests.

A full time cook will prepare home cooked meals for both breakfast and dinner. Lunches are usually prepared by your guide in the field.

The camp has a screened in meat house where all meat is stored during your stay. On departure it is packaged into airline approved boxes for easy transportation.
During the hunt everyone must wear at least 400 square inches of hunter orange that is visible from all directions. Minimum rifle caliber is .243. Handguns are not permitted and are illegal. It is highly recommended that you make use of a scoped rifle, have better than average optics, top of the line hunting boots, good quality rain gear, and bring a good quality sleeping bag.
Ptarmigan are migratory birds that come into our area mid - season and stay through the winter. They are cyclic and will vary in numbers from year to year. This is a beautiful game bird that will be brown in color during August and by mid September will be half brown and half white. By the end of September they will have completely changed to their winter colors. They can be hunted with a light gauge shotgun, 22 rim fire or a sling shot all under the authority of a small game permit.
All of the food and supplies are available on request.
